Visa Requirements and Travel

Most international visitors travelling to Sri Lanka require a valid visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to arrival.

• The ETA is the most common entry approval for short-term visits.
• It is typically applied for online before travel.
• Approval is generally issued electronically and linked to your passport.
• Delegates are encouraged to apply well in advance of their travel dates.

Conference delegates should apply under the appropriate short-term visit or business/travel category, as advised by Sri Lankan immigration authorities.

• Passports must generally be valid for at least six (6) months from the date of arrival.
• Ensure that your passport has sufficient blank pages for immigration stamps.

Registered delegates who require a formal invitation letter for visa purposes may request one from the Conference Secretariat after completing registration.

• Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB)
  Located approximately 45–60 minutes from Colombo city centre.

Upon arrival, travellers may be required to present:

• Valid passport
• Approved ETA or visa
• Return or onward flight details
• Hotel or accommodation confirmation
• Evidence of sufficient funds (if requested)

Immigration procedures are generally straightforward; however, delegates should allow adequate time for processing during peak periods.

Delegates are advised to:

• Declare restricted or high-value items where required.
• Familiarise themselves with Sri Lanka’s customs regulations before arrival.
• Avoid carrying prohibited or restricted goods.

Transport options from the airport include:

• Hotel-arranged transfers
• Licensed airport taxis
• Ride-hailing services
• Private transport providers

Conference transport guidance and recommended transfer options will be published closer to the event.

Delegates should:

• Ensure they have adequate travel and medical insurance.
• Check any current health or vaccination recommendations prior to travel.
• Carry personal medications with appropriate documentation if required.
